It's no mystery why this heavily hyped rock & roll comedy ended up as one of last summer's major disappointments, since Airheads accidentally qualifies as one of the most virulently anti-rock films of all time. Young audiences probably agreed with the villainous program director when he tells the comically inept heavy-metal act that seizes his radio station that ''rock & roll!'' is a pretty stupid message to shout out to the world. And while the film's first 15 minutes should prepare viewers for a long and humorless ride, things get downright uncomfortable after a fictional record exec boasts that a real-life rocker only served 30 days for manslaughter.
