As Michael Stipe of R.E.M. traipses across a tranquil sepia-toned desert in Man on the Moon, his jovial murmurings are rendered as splintered video collage — a lyric mentioning Charles Darwin evolves into an ape-to-man flip book. When Stipe trips into a dust — encrusted truck stop, the lips of catatonic patrons pause from tippling to mouth the song's lyrics. If they can put a man on the moon, why can't they make more visually stimulating videos like this one? A
