Shot Forth Self Living (1993)

EW's GRADE
B+

Details Lead Performance: Medicine; Genre: Rock

Arty grunge. It doesn't sound like a compliment, but on this debut release, Shot Forth Self Living, Medicine deploys guitar feedback and humming vocals to create melodies as catchy as they are eerie. Then, too, artiness is in this L.A. group's bloodline: The quintet includes bassist Ed Ruscha, son of the famed painter of the same name. Like his dad, Ruscha toys with minimalist lines that surge with humor and passion. B+
