Too bad this made-for-cable thriller, about a make-over with killer consequences, is only skin deep. A shy, out-of-work teacher (Jennifer Rubin) becomes a professional model after she is discovered by an intense photographer (Peter Outerbridge) and a tough-as-wrapped-nails agent (Sally Kellerman). To their dismay, however, their new creation is beyond pretty, she's literally drop-dead gorgeous: Every man who's attracted to her drops dead. Rife with tight, anxiety-provoking angles — and even a shower scene — this unoriginal mystery tries hard to be intriguing. But the buildup is slow (the list of suspects is as long as some of this year's haute couture hemlines), and the so-called surprise ending is illogical. Still, Victim of Beauty is mildly absorbing. Not a bad weeknight rental. C-
