Now that the Cold War is over, espionage novelist Tom Clancy has trained his guns on a different enemy — Paramount Pictures. As the studio prepares Clancy's Clear and Present Danger, he has publicly dismissed Phillip Noyce, who is helming Danger, as ''a B-movie director at best'' and complained that star Harrison Ford, 50, is too old for the part.
Although former Paramount chairman Brandon Tartikoff rushed to appease Clancy when he made similar objections to Patriot Games, new chief Sherry Lansing has chosen to ignore him. Paramount is keeping Ford and Noyce — Games earned $83 million.
Calling Clancy's objections ''nonsense,'' Mace Neufeld, coproducer of Games and Danger, adds, ''His outbursts are getting tiresome.''
