Bill Murray's Groundhog Day cast its shadow over the com-petition, raking in a smashing $14.7 million during the extended Presidents' Day weekend. It was the most successful opening for any Murray vehicle (excepting Ghostbusters II), not to mention the second-biggest winter opening ever (after Wayne's World). With a B+ from audiences polled by CinemaScore, Groundhog Day could become a major success. Disney's Homeward Bound did solid business in its first weekend of wide release, and Sommersby held up superbly, maintaining a solid $5,811 per-screen average. Vying for bomb of the week were The Temp, coming in at No. 10, and Love Field (off the chart), with an abysmal $1,465 average. WEEKEND TOP TEN GROSS WEEKS IN GROSS* TO DATE RELEASE
