Just Kern (1993)

Torch singer Andrea Marcovicci typically looks for the cloud, not the silver lining, in every song. What a surprise, then, to hear her in mostly sunny songs on Just Kern, by master melodist Jerome Kern. She's still best at torch (''Why Was I Born?''), but its' nice to hear her smile, too, especially in the sweet medley duet with guest Michael Feinstein, ''Once There Were Two of Us''/''Now That We Are One.'' B+
