A bummed-out writer (Dylan McDermott) rents a room in a mansion to a mass murderer (Tom Sizemore) who has slaughtered a family there and unwittingly begins to write the killer's story. Obvious, pretentious, and definitely unpleasant, Where Sleeping Dogs Lie is also creepily compelling. It lightens up when literary agent Sharon Stone (who has been unhelpful to the underwear industry lately) commands, ''Write me something that grabs me between the legs.'' C+
