Guess Arnold Schwarzenegger caught The Player. The roster of stars doing quickie parts for his Last Action Hero, due out June 18, is growing faster than the movie's $50 million budget. So far, the cast of characters includes Tina Turner, Sharon Stone, Adam Ant, James Belushi, Chevy Chase, Tony Danza, Tony Curtis, Hammer, Little Richard, Tori Spelling, Jean-Claude Van Damme, and Damon Wayans, plus Arnie's Terminator 2 colleagues, actors Robert Patrick and Edward Furlong and director James Cameron. That's not all: Schwarzenegger actually appears briefly as himself, along with real-life wife Maria Shriver.
Some stars also portray themselves at a premiere for the film-within-a-film, Jack Slade IV, starring Arnie's character. Others play Slade costars. And a handful are characters in the ''real-life'' adventures that ensue when Slade pops off the movie screen and into a young fan's life (shades of Purple Rose of Cairo). Among them: Joan Plowright as an English instructor who teaches Hamlet by telling her students about the famed performance of Laurence Olivier Plowright's late husband.
