A Different 'World'

''Real World'' drama -- A cast member on the MTV reality series is asked to leave the Venice, California paradise

Things may be getting a tad too real on the next edition of MTV's The Real World, the hit video vérité soap opera that has been taping in Venice, Calif., since February. Already there are problems in paradise: One housemate was kicked out of the dreamy beach house weeks after taping began, and there have been rumors that others are packing guns.

''That's only partially true,'' says series coproducer Mary-Ellis Bunim. ''There is a gun in the house, because one of the kids is a deputy marshal. But she keeps it under lock and key.'' As for the ousted housemate: ''One person was asked by the other roommates to leave. I can't say why, but it was very dramatic, tense, and awkward.'' Also photogenic: The incident will unspool on TV during the 22-part series, which begins in June.
