DENZEL'S DANCE PARTY
Locale: Washington's post-Oscars bash at Georgia, a new restaurant
in which he has an investment
Guest List: Wesley Snipes, Debbie Allen and hubcap Norm Nixon (who
is also a co-owner), Morgan Freeman, Natalie Cole, Alfre Woodard,
John Singleton; at 3 a.m., Jaye Davidson, Liza Minnelli, and Billy
Stritch arrived and closed the place down.
Food for Thought: Fried shrimp dipped in coconut batter, barbecued
ribs, and frogs' legs
Best Moment: Minnelli cajoling Davidson to let down his hair and
come out onto the dance floor. Davidson chose to stay on the
sidelines.
Best Comment: ''Do I look disappointed?'' asked Oscar nominee
Washington as his wife, Pauletta, and Debbie Allen led him onto the
dance floor.
SWIFTY'S LAST STAND?
Locale: Spago
Guest List: Most of Hollywood's power players came for dinner. The
stars (including Jack Nicholson, Elizabeth Taylor, Al Pacino, Sharon
Stone, Miranda Richardson, and Jon Lovitz) stopped by after the show.
Most Unlikely Attendee: Political commentator John McLaughlin, who
spent the night trying to convince QVC mogul Barry Diller to appear
on his show
Food for Thought: Oven-roasted Alaskan white salmon with
horseradish crust and potato puree with tomato fennel butter
Best Distraction: Riding in the limo the 100 yards east to Clint
Eastwood's high-joy-factor party at the fashionable Nicky Blair's
restaurant
Best Moment: Two tech-award winners holding their Oscars up
through the sun roof of their limo as the 300-plus crowd outside
Spago applauded
Overheard: Two women sizing up Stephen Rea: ''He seems like a
harmless guy who you could go out on a date with and he wouldn't
attack you.''
