His cover-up is dandyism, but Don Diego Vega (Tyrone Power) is really Zorro, righting injustices in early California. Since this B-movie material was given A treatment, down-and-dirty action was sacrificed for visual style. Power wasn't equipped with the physical bravado and restless spirit for the renegade hero, and in retrospect The Mark of Zorro seems too tame for a movie about recklessness. B
