Earth and the American Dream

EW's GRADE
C

Details Genre: Documentary; With: Ed Asner and Alec Baldwin; Network: HBO

Beautifully photographed tree-hugging. Director Bill Couturié has made an environmentalist documentary designed to illustrate how humans, their greed, and their pollution have destroyed huge sections of this country. Borrowing from his own Dear America: Letters Home From Vietnam and Ken Burns' Civil War, Couturié has famous actors, from Gene Hackman to Alec Baldwin, read letters, diaries, etc., from historical figures testifying to the beauty of America. Earth and the American Dream is sincere but boring, a warning that comes off as condescending. C
