ASPEN EXTREME Paul Gross, Peter Berg (1993, Hollywood, $94.95, PG-13) You'd never know from its title or its advertising that this is a funny, thoughtful film about friendship. Two Detroit boys, T.J. and Dexter (Gross and Berg), whose lives have been on hold for too long, head to Aspen. There, aspiring writer T.J. becomes a star skier, and Dexter teaches the bunny brigade and gets into trouble. The two, who wind up living in a caboose, are a bit like the Beverly Hillbillies in chic Colorado, but their dreams soon start souring. This overlong film, written and directed by Patrick Hasburgh, keeps changing tone unobtrusively. But the skiing footage-even when squeezed into the boot of a small screen-is extraordinary. B -Lawrence O'Toole
