EATING Gwen Welles, Mary Crosby (1990, Paramount, $89.95, R) Three California women turning 30, 40, and 50 at a birthday party are being filmed by a French documentarian concerned with women's food issues, which are legion. Directed by Henry Jaglom in a jumpy home-movie style neatly suited to video, this all- female movie resembles one big, unhappy Overeaters Anonymous meeting. Virtually all the women talk nonstop about how depressed they are, and they are very depressed. Ultimately the film offers an extremely narrow-and ungenerous-view of women. It seems to suggest that bulimia is the latest California trend. B- -LO'T
