With noted hack Irwin Allen (The Swarm) at the helm, this would-be spectacle founders deliciously right from its opening credits, over which Frankie Avalon croons an Airplane! worthy theme song: ''In a scene/All blue-green/We will find love/At the bottom of the seeeea.'' Things just get soggier from there, as a crusty submarine commander (Pidgeon) attempts to dissipate a burning ring of atmospheric radiation with of course! a single well-placed missile. Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea's picture and sound are crystalline, which helps make the tacky sets (later reused for the TV show) and clumsily piped-in sound effects seem even more laughably bottom of the barrel.
