After the new-jack pop of 1989's It's Real, James Ingram comes back soft and sappy on Always You. He can't pump life into love songs with no soul, and the best cuts ''This Is the Night,'' ''You Never Know What You Got,'' and ''Sing for the Children'' barely hint at the vocal power he possesses.
