Another icy, intriguing puzzle box from the talented Canadian director Atom Egoyan. Adventurous renters will relish this postmodern tale of an insurance-claims adjuster (Koteas, a long way from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) who takes his job of helping those struck by disaster with a nearly Christlike seriousness. The Adjuster is gorgeously opaque, with glints of meaning that float to the surface like unexplained corpses.
