From Bessie to Brazil (1993)

EW's GRADE
B

Details Lead Performance: Susannah McCorkle; Genres: Jazz, Pop

Susannah McCorkle has such complete (and justified) faith in her material on From Bessie to Brazil, she can move with aplomb from a slowly rockin' 1920s Bessie Smith number, to a reflective, contemporary Rupert Holmes song, and on to sweet/sad Brazilian jazz. But letting jazz soloists like Randy Sandke and Rob Trowers play would have yielded a more colorful CD. B
