Susannah McCorkle has such complete (and justified) faith in her material, she can move with aplomb from a slowly rockin' 1920s Bessie Smith number, to a reflective, contemporary Rupert Holmes song, and on to sweet/sad Brazilian jazz. But letting jazz soloists like Randy Sandke and Rob Trowers play would have yielded a more colorful CD.
