With fellow Tear for Fear Curt Smith gone solo, Roland Orzabal crafts an even more baroque pop vacuum, embellishing songs that invariably mean less than you think: ''Does your conscience always get you down?'' he absently asks over a faux-groovy bass line. But the sampled guitar bursts and nifty studio tricks, like Squeeze mimicking the Beatles, keep you obediently humming while Orzabal plays teen-neuroses word games.
