Mercury Rev Boces (Columbia) Now that the style known as alternative rock is as common as flannel, we need a new alternative. Enter Mercury Rev. The second album from this Buffalo band mixes kicky Burt Bacharach horns, ''Girl From Ipanema'' vocals, fuzzy psychedelic guitars, and Velvet Underground attitude- all in tracks that rival Yes for sheer length. As reckless as a finger painting, Rev's music still manages to be catchy. They put the risk back in rock. B+ -Jim Farber
