RISING SUN Michael Crichton (Ballantine, $5.99, 1992) When it was first published, critics lambasted Rising Sun-Michael Crichton's techno-thriller about a murder in a Japanese-owned skyscraper in L.A.-as an anti-Japanese polemic. Despite the fuss, the book did well, and Ballantine has released this edition just in time for the movie, due July 30. C-
