Alternately pedestrian and hilarious, McMillan's record of sexual experiences smoothly captures the plethora of neuroses unique to the perpetually hard up. His refusal to learn from the mistakes noted in his own scribblings proves bothersome on occasion, but then again, as Ellis quaintly writes, ''Everyone knows that a heart and a d -- - can't read.''
