NEMESIS Olivier Gruner, Deborah Shelton (1993, Imperial, R, $94.95) A blend of Blade Runner and RoboCop, this sci-fi vision set in a.d. 2027, when Japan and America have merged governments, creates a fascinating brand-new world. Gruner plays a human cop with lots of synthetic flesh and bioengineered organs (he once fell hard for a cyborg) who attempts to foil an Orwellian takeover conspiracy by nonhumans. Unfortunately, the movie devolves into a standard, albeit nonstop, action picture, and it never matches the super-high-tech poetry of Gruner's carrying his beloved cyborg in a microchip which holds her memory banks and therefore her soul.
