THE THREE FACES OF EVE Joanne Woodward, Lee J. Cobb (1957, FoxVideo, unrated, $19.98) The case study of a dowdy Georgia housewife, Eve White (Woodward), who has another, darker side called Eve Black, and who finally emerges as a well- balanced human being (Eve Gray?). The movie is given a self-serious tone by Alistair Cooke's narration: a kind of Masterpiece Nuthouse. Nearly 40 years later, apart from Woodward's great poignancy, it's all rather tame. Next to Sally Field's highly diversified Sybil, three-personality Eve, psychologically speaking, is downright po' folks. The film was shot in CinemaScope, but the tape has not been letterboxed, making Eve not the only one with problems: Other characters often appear to be talking to nobody. B-
