Forget the Bodyguard and Sleepless in Seattle soundtracks — way too classy. Think instead of cheesy '60s lounge jazz overlayed with bits of lame dialogue. Now that's cool, and pretty much describes the score of Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! — mammary-loving director Russ Meyer's 1966 ode to murderous race-car-driving go-go dancers.
The release of the soundtrack in early September will also mark the debut of Strangelove, a soundtracks-only label from one-named indie rock magnate Kramer. Designed to unearth the aural landscape behind cinema's more obscure, and dubious, treasures, Strangelove will look to secure rights to the most notorious B-movie, horror, and Shaftian exploitation flicks, spotlighting such bargain-basement celluloid outlaws as Herschell Gordon Lewis (Blood Feast) and Roger Corman (The Little Shop of Horrors).
And maybe Russ Meyer will consider Strangelove when he begins production on his sequel to Faster, Pussycat! this fall. What will it entail? According to Kramer, who got it straight from the auteur: ''Same location, same story, same dialogue, bigger breasts.''
