Chiller Sterling Blake (Bantam Books, $21.95) Chiller reads like death warmed over. When cryonics finally works so people can be frozen for years and then revived, a religious lunatic decides that these scientists are playing God and must be stopped permanently. This novel should be riveting, since it has murders interrupted at crucial moments, a serial killer, lovers who defy death, and scientists who fill a church with multicolored cockroaches. But it's sluggish, as if it has been cooled down in its own freezer. C-
