Taking hints from break-beat albums (i.e., hip-hop Cliffs Notes), this compilation of tracks from DJs and session players is no clumsy jazz/rap blind date. Fusion-phobic and funky, the Acid Jazz series cleverly explores relationships among several strains of urban dance music and, more importantly, tries to reshape R&B pop.
