ELMORE LEONARD'S CRIMINAL RECORDS (1993, Home Vision, $19.95) Ten of author Leonard's 30-plus Western and crime novels have been made into movies. Small wonder. Leonard himself is so visually attuned that he researches prospective characters by watching videotaped interviews with cops, judges, and bail bondsmen. This 61-minute BBC documentary will be a godsend for Leonard fans who want to hear their guy read from Killshot and other favorites, eavesdrop on people who figure in his books, tour a police-evidence room for insights into the Detroit underworld, and-oh, yeah-listen to Hollywood producer Walter Mirisch explain why his pal Leonard's novels make such great film material.
