THE KILLING BEACH Greta Scacchi, Joan Chen (1993, Columbia TriStar, R, $94.95) Scacchi plays an Australian journalist who witnesses the mistreatment and wholesale massacre of the Vietnamese boat people by Malaysians. Chen is the Vietnamese wife of a diplomat with a secret. The film portrays some powerful stuff, set in a strikingly exotic locale, but the material is presented in sentimentalized form, reducing its impact. There are just too many tearful shots of refugees and one too many weepy protagonists. C
