A HOUSE IN THE HILLS Helen Slater, Michael Madsen (1993, LIVE, R, $92.98) Ken Wiederhorn (Return of the Living Dead Part II) directs this thriller with a refreshing sense of humor and draws a luminous performance from Slater (Supergirl) that makes you wonder why she's not yet a major star. She plays an aspiring actress whose life unravels when she takes the weekend off to house-sit in the Hollywood Hills. First, she's held hostage by a termite exterminator who's really an ex-con (likably played by Thelma & Louise's Madsen), and then her next-door neighbor turns out to be...well, you'll see. And you should. B
