The plot's like a sitcom with a butch twist: Lovelorn lesbian Kelly Lynch hires male escort Baldwin to bring back her ex-girlfriend Fenn by souring her on men; of course, he falls for Fenn himself. With its New York City setting and oh-so-modern story line, ''Hearts'' would love to be thought daring. It's not, but it's still a pleasantly dumb guilty pleasure, like a romance novel you find in the 50-cent bin. Baldwin is peppy as a sort of Holly Go-Heavily, but the filmmakers play the wrong card by casting woozy Fenn as his and Lynch's object of desire. The character she plays is a brilliant NYU writing professor, and that sound you hear is the movie's credibility crashing to earth.
