Jackson Browne I'm Alive (Elektra) It's hard to listen to Browne's first record in 41/2 years without thinking of a certain Tall Blond Movie Actress and the allegations of battering that spilled out onto the front pages of the tabloids last fall, especially since one song is titled ''Sky Blue and Black.'' But in what appears to be a concept album about life with (and without) Daryl, Browne is here to tell the other side of the story, and it's clear he thinks the angels-an image repeated in three songs-are on his side. He races through the predictable stages of doomed relationships, some dressed in bland reggae settings, yet he never finds the soaring melodies of his early work, and only rarely (''Too Many Angels,'' ''Two of Me and Two of You'') does he approach lyrical elegance. We feel his pain, but never enough to truly care. C -AN
