Fans of Mystery Science Theater 3000 may get a bit MSTie-eyed this week. The Comedy Central B-movie cult series has just lost its worshipped lead quipster, Joel Hodgson, who is beaming off for an ''extended hiatus.'' Taking his place on the Satellite of Love is head writer Michael J. Nelson (best known to MSTies for his amazing impersonations of the Amazing Colossal Man and A&E's great pontificator, Jack Perkins). The difference between the Hodgson and Nelson styles? ''My character is more of a pal to the robots, less a father figure,'' the new guy offers. ''Also, I'm taller.'' So long as he's just as funny.
