For the past two seasons, romance queen Danielle Steel has been NBC's secret weapon against CBS' World Series coverage, but not this year. ABC's rerun of the Julia Roberts-Richard Gere romantic comedy Pretty Woman beat the second game of the World Series and drew more than twice as many viewers as the first part of NBC's latest Steel opus, Message from Nam. ABC's teen tennis sitcom, Phenom, is also flourishing against baseball; with play-off games preempting Rescue 911 for the past two weeks on CBS, the Judith Light-William Devane vehicle has leaped into the top 20. More promising news for ABC: After a slow start, its Sunday romantic comedy/ adventure series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman (33rd) has pulled into a virtual tie with NBC's sinking seaQuest DSV (29th).
