What's true for magic acts is true for special effects in movies: They're even more fun when you spot the hidden wires. Just check out the recent video release of the Stephen King- based Children of the Corn II: The Final Sacrifice, a generally joyless horror movie featuring cob-patch kids on a killing spree in Nebraska (yes, the Cornhusker State). The unpleasant experience of watching a truck hit a terrified woman in a wheelchair isn't quite so bad when you slo-mo the videotape. Then you can see what gives the dummy-filled chair its extra lift upon impact: an extremely visible rope tugging on it from the top-right corner of the screen.
