HOFFA Jack Nicholson, Danny DeVito (1992, FoxVideo/Image, R, wide-screen, $99.98) To his credit, actor-director Danny DeVito loves laserdiscs. So for the disc of Hoffa, his ambitious biopic on the controversial labor leader, DeVito has gone the deluxe route-a letterboxed transfer, THX sound, running commentary on an analog audio track, deleted scenes, storyboards, ''Making Of'' sequences, even a review. Some of this is interesting the first time around, in particular the documentary footage of the real-life Hoffa at a congressional hearing (re-created almost verbatim in the film). But in the end, the extras fail to conceal that Hoffa, despite Nicholson's remarkable performance, is overdirected, uninvolving, and a chore to sit through. Sorry, Danny-sometimes less is more. B- SS
