This enduring Scottish cult band's songs are like alluring objects viewed through frosted panes of glass. A hypnotic haze and liberal doses of reverb still keep things fuzzy on Four-Calendar Cafe, but deceptive pop sweetness — Elizabeth Fraser's songbird voice and gently rumbling drum machines — cuts through the fog. Songs like "Evangeline" and "Squeeze-Wax" have an otherworldly shimmer, a mode perfected by these early architects of dream pop. A-
