Lead Performance: Crash Test Dummies

Crash Test Dummies God Shuffled His Feet (Arista) A band name like this inspires musical visions of off-the-wall punk or, at the very least, retroparty animalism. But no. This second U.S. release from five Winnipeg, Canada, natives instead sports a winsome, often pastoral, folk pop that's oddly juxtaposed with singer Brad Roberts' lugubrious baritone vocals. All in all, though, Dummies may prove to be too darn nice for American audiences and their band's own name. B- -Mike Flaherty
