This assortment of live material from McCartney's current tour will no doubt have Beatles freaks drooling over the plethora of Fab Four faves — from "Drive My Car" to "Paperback Writer." But the most appealing thing about Paul Is Live is the spontaneity of the old boy's performances. What could easily have been a schmaltz revue sounds like 77 minutes of unpretentious rock & roll. And give the man points for resisting the temptation to overdub. B+
