This assortment of live material from McCartney's current tour will no doubt have Beatles freaks drooling over the plethora of Fab Four faves from "Drive My Car" to "Paperback Writer." But the most appealing thing about Paul Is Live is the spontaneity of the old boy's performances. What could easily have been a schmaltz revue sounds like 77 minutes of unpretentious rock & roll. And give the man points for resisting the temptation to overdub. B+
