A provocative documentary peek at the paparazzi trade, BLAST 'EM (1992, Academy, unrated, $89.95) looks at its subject from both sides of the lens. The filmmakers follow various photographers as they stake out and shoot celebrities; meanwhile, in interviews, several paparazzi provide revealing insights about their specialized craft. ''I have no sympathy for someone who makes 20 to 30 million dollars a year,'' says one, explaining why he gets so furious when Michael J. Fox won't pose for him. The filmmakers view such attitude with the irony it deserves. But they don't have to go too far out of their way to paint an unflattering portrait: The actions of these star stalkers speak as eloquently as a thousand pictures. A- -Michael Sauter
