Busting out of the long-simmering Canadian East Coast scene, these New Brunswick natives make their full-length debut on major-minor label Sub Pop. After a string of grittier (dare I say grungier?) 7-inch releases, and a pretty caustic live show, they've successfully rounded things out here with some sinewy, almost wistful pop and sweet, slack balladry on Love Tar. B+
