Dave Stewart's pop architectural savvy combined with Annie Lennox's blanched soul fire produced a chemistry experiment waiting to explode-in the best sense. But if sparks flew in the studio, this somewhat flat live sampler, Live 1983-1989, suffers from the you-hadda-be-there syndrome. Fortunately, infectious tunes like ''There Must Be an Angel (Playing With My Heart)'' and the underrated gem ''Thorn in My Side'' provide evidence of the kind of heat this '80s duo could generate. B-
