After surrendering to an idealistic U.S. Army lieutenant (Jason Patric), Geronimo (Wes Studi) leads his fellow Apache into a series of violent skirmishes. The gun battles in Geronimo: An American Legend are staged with director Walter Hill's usual flair, but each one is followed by 20 minutes of monosyllabic inertia. Studi, who just about melted the screen with his hostile glower in Last of the Mohicans, now seems to be posing for a wooden nickel. D+
