Another big box office season has passed and with it goes another slew of great movie houses. With the real estate market in a nationwide slump, there's no better time to sit back and fantasize about owning one of these idyllic abodes: * THE PRINCE OF TIDES The Wingos' beach house (Nick Nolte and Blythe Danner). Location: Fripp Island in Beaufort, S.C. Alterations: Added stairs from balcony to beach, new carpeting, furniture, and paint. Cost to buy: $300,000-$500,000. * CAPE FEAR The Bowdens' house (Nick Nolte and Jessica Lange). Location: Near the Fort. Lauderdale airport, just off Griffin Road. Alterations: Relandscaped, changed all the windows (to make the house seem less secure), and moved walls. Added shutters, new carpet, paint, all furniture and art, and a Georgian stair railing. Also added the outdoor wall on which Max Cady sits and hung loads of moss. Cost to buy: Approximately $300,000. * JFK The Garrisons' house (Kevin Costner and Sissy Spacek). Location: New Orleans' Garden District. Alterations: The house was completely gutted, recarpeted, wallpapered, and painted. Period kitchen, furniture, and television sets were added. Cost to buy: $200,000- $300,000. * THE HAND THAT ROCKS THE CRADLE The Bartels' house (Annabella Sciorra and Matt McCoy). Location: Yakima Street, Tacoma, Wash. Alterations: Built a greenhouse, (which the real owners bought), landscaped, added new furniture, repainted, lightened wood inside, gutted and replaced the kitchen. Cost to buy: $400,000-$650,000.
