Audiences, as everyone knows, don't always listen to critics, but at least one picture this week proved a dramatic example of star power overwhelming negative notices. Hardly any reviewers lined up in praise of Medicine Man, yet the rain-forest romance easily captured the No. 1 spot (and a CinemaScore grade of B+), due in no small part to the presence of Sean Connery. On the other hand, neither Richard Gere nor Kim Basinger proved heavy enough draws to trump the mediocre reviews of Final Analysis. The Hitchcockian thriller had a ! so-so opening, generating a CinemaScore grade of B. But can rave reviews create a box office success? Stay tuned for the upcoming wider releases of Hear My Song and Mississippi Masala. WEEKEND TOP TEN GROSS WEEKS IN GROSS* TO DATE RELEASE
