DEFENSELESS Barbara Hershey, Sam Shepard (1991, LIVE, $92.98, R) Ignore the prodigious plot holes and you may just find yourself engrossed in this seamy, otherwise well-crafted murder mystery. It's discomfiting, however, to see Hershey-as the world's stupidest defense attorney-constantly talking to herself. C+ -Doug Brod
