UNDER SUSPICION (R) Made in Britain, this conventional murder mystery unfolds with a drab, overcast naturalism. The sluggish, ''probing'' mood just gives us that much more time to notice how arbitrary the movie's standard whodunit convolutions are. As a detective suspected of killing his wife, Liam Neeson turns his small, wounded eyes into pools of fear and guilt. Laura San Giacomo, on the other hand, is badly miscast as a Barbara Stanwyck-type femme fatale. Teetering on high heels, with ruby lips and a silky mane, she's like a little girl who wandered into Mommy's closet. C+
