What do you get the JFK assassination buff who has everything? How about a 10- foot section of wooden fence that screened the grassy knoll at Elm Street in Dallas — the place where various witnesses said they saw a puff of smoke when President Kennedy was killed and where Oliver Stone's JFK says a second gunman was positioned.

Dallas antiques dealer John Gardner got the nearly six-foot-high piece of fencing for free when he came upon city workers replacing the weathered section in 1988. He recently advertised the piece at $5,000 via classifieds in the Los Angeles Times and New York Times. But after getting only one response, he's willing to let the lumber go for the best offer. ''After the Stone film, I figure this is the time to sell it,'' says Gardner, who feels the fence will make a ''neat conversation piece'' in someone's living room or nightclub.
