Albums used to reach No. 1 like mountain climbers-scrabbling upward from piton to piton over the course of several weeks. Now, many chart toppers shoot to the summit as if propelled by jet packs. That's certainly the case with The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion, the sophomore effort from the Black Crowes, which boogies to No. 1 in its first week. Clearly, a much-anticipated new album skyrockets upward much the way a hot new movie does. But unlike motion pictures, a few albums still make the peak the old-fashioned way: Last week's No. 1, Kriss Kross' Totally Krossed Out, took six weeks to earn the top slot.
